Contrary to popular belief, it is indoor pollution sources (not outdoor sources) that are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in homes. These include combustion sources such as oil, gas, kerosene, coal, wood, and tobacco products; building materials, wet or damp carpet, and cabinetry or furniture made of certain pressed wood products. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.

A tightly sealed system, using JM duct board or Formaldehyde-free™ insulation is the best way to minimize the introduction of indoor pollutants. A well-insulated system also greatly reduces condensation and the chance for mold and mildew to get a foothold.
